Our Story

Brew Choc is the great tasting coffee alternative is made from 100%, perfectly roasted cocoa beans. Nothing more, nothing less. Zero sugar, zero additives, zero gluten, zero dairy, with low food miles making it a sustainable healthy brewing chocolate. The single origin beans have only come a short distance to Australia from premium cocoa growers in the Solomon Islands, they are then craft roasted and milled to perfection in our roastery in Perth, giving you a superior product with sky-high antioxidants, abundant minerals and healthy energy.

Years ago when I first discovered brewing chocolate on Twitter, purely by accident, I was fascinated enough to bring it into Australia. That brand is Crio Bru. And delicious it is. But I think we have something better here. If you look at the footprint of Crio Bru versus the footprint of Brew Choc, that alone should have you reaching for a packet or two. It always bothered me that the cacao beans were shipped from country of origin to midwest USA for processing, then packaged and trucked to the coastal USA then spent up to 8 weeks on a ship stopping at every port along the way before they reached us here in Australia. They could never be that fresh, though I have to mention that cacao beans only have a best before date as opposed to a use by date. (Two very different things.)

Our beans are grown and fermented by a purely organic farm in the Solomon Islands. (Their organic certification is pending and will appear on the packaging soon.) They also supply the very French Valrhona chocolate company. This in and of itself is a huge deal for us. It means we are using the very best tasting beans. We did try many beans from the region and even some from further afield... (tough gig) and we are in love with the caramel vanilla notes of this beautiful chocolate.

 

We are sometimes asked why we leave the shell on the roasted beans. In short, the answer is flavour. Leaving the shell on adds to the over all flavour of your brewed cuppa. It is simple to strain out the solids, and you do get more bang for your cup! 

We wanted to create an amazing brewing chocolate that you could rely on flavour wise. We are confident that this is what we have done. 

HOW TO BREW

ORIGINAL BREW CHOC:

To make the most of this amazing healthy drink, add 50g of brewing granules per 1 Litre of filtered water and brew in a Thermomix on a slow simmer (90°C/speed 1) for approximately 10 minutes. Allow it to infuse and stir it vigorously to get the most flavour. Press or filter and drink as you would your favourite coffee, with or without textured milk, cream, sugar, non dairy milk.

You can also use a French Press, or other tea making paraphernalia, as shown in the video. The key is a longer slower brew than coffee. Probably more like tea. NO LONGER THAN FIVE minutes. It becomes quite astringent after that. Then strain out the solids. The thing to remember is that this is not your classic hot chocolate. It is full of amazing health giving properties and although it smells like hot chocolate in the brewing process, it tastes very different (until you add the sweetener and milk). Rest assured it is FAR better for you than any hot chocolate on the market.
